Color and Fashion Trend Report

Introduction

The brand we chosen is Marc Jacobs. His very much experience is so shocked. He is not only the art directors of Louis Vuitton and the designer of Fendi, he also has his own product line, Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs. In those limes, he sells men, women and kids wear, sun glasses, perfume and so on. Being a high fashion designer really cannot only focus on one business. The successful of Marc Jacobs are unbelievable.

Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs Analysis

In the previous posts I have mentioned a lot about their color using and the styles of these two lines. So in the report I just give a brief of those differences and sameness.

The same details of these two lines are as followed.
Marc Jacobs likes to use analogous and complementary color schemes. Achromatic colors will be the main colors in every season. Secondly, blue family will be the second favorite choice of him. In winter, maroon is also always used. The recent 4 season collections of both lines are mostly in fewer colors than before. To the color matching, Marc Jacobs will match them on complimentary color schemes and mono chromatic schemes. He especially likes to match the Yellow and Blue.

The differences between them are mostly the styles. The styles of Marc by MJ are casual and energy. The cuttings and colors used are younger and trendier than Marc Jacobs much. So, the color use at Marc by MJ will be more than Marc Jacobs. At the same time, the utility of achromatic colors in Marc Jacobs will be much more than Marc by MJ although recently Marc by MJ increased the used of achromatic colors. In the Marc by MJ, color pattern and prints is often seen. And the layering of him are more than Marc Jacobs at the same time.

After knowing the details of them, I am more interested in designing the Marc by Marc Jacobs. Since I am young and I like colorful.

Forecasting 2009 FALL WINTER READY TO WEAR

1.Colors

Firstly, the achromatic colors and blue family are essential. Also, the dark turquoise is like the combination of green and blue. Although green are seldom to be found in his collection, I find green is begun to be used. But it is impossible to use it in a large range, so the dark turquoise will be adopted in the forecasting.

Secondly, the orange, brown and yellow family will be always seen in the coming season. The first reason is Blue is the most used colors; orange, brown and yellow are the complementary colors of blue. The second reason is they are analogous colors schemes. After adopting those colors, the collection will be looked more harmony and consistence.

Apart from those, I choose Violet (personally I don’t like this color). The reason is almost the same with the dark turquoise. Pastel violet is often seen in one to two outfit in latest collection. It is possible to see violet in high shades in Marc by Marc Jacobs 2009 Fall Winter Ready to Wear. On the other hand, violet is the analgous color of the blue.

Last but not least, the maroon will not be isolated. It is often to be seen especially in the fall winter collection.

Some remarks for the forecasting, the golden and silver colors or some furry materials will not be used in the following season. The main reason is because of the recent financial crisis. People will not wear in worthy and rich to show the poor heart feeling.

2. Fashion Trend

I chose Bohemian as this collection styles theme. Since the color forecasting of Marc by Marc Jacobs likes the main color used in Bohemian styles. Also, the patterns are always seen at the collections of M by MJ.

Meanwhile, recently, the whole world are encountering the Financial Crisis. The textile materials from Behemian are inferior and inexpensive; it can match with the world atmosphere. On the other hand, the inexpensive fabric will generate low cost at the production. The price won't be too high to sell and the profit margin can be increased at the same time

Actually, Bohemian is often to seen in the summer, But now I want to create it in the winter style.

My Design Collections

In my collection, knitted fabric and western lace print fabrics will be mainly used. The colors used as forecasting has mentioned. The achromatic colors and orange, yellow and brown family, maroon, dark turquoise and violet are used. However, the blue family is not chosen at the final selection. Only the dark blue is used.

Before coloring the outfits, there is much thinking of the collection in my mind. However, I cannot do it very well. At first, I want to make some ethic pattern by colors matching, such as complementary colors; it is not a quite success due to the poor skills of mine. I have tried to match the colors by the theory of the colors. But it seems very strange and not harmony. Great contrast are made; but I cannot accept them.

To the color matching, I really like to match the color with the achromatic colors. It’s really easy matching with them. Maroon and grey both are really a great couple. Secondly, I like to match them on mono-chromatic color schemes. Both of them give a huge harmony to the outfits. I also match the colors by the complementary color scheme. Such as, blue family and the yellow family.

I find that my total color schemes excluding the achromatic colors are the analogous and complementary color schemes. Blue, violet, dark turquoise and maroon are the complementary colors of the yellow family, including orange and brown. Then, blue, violet, dark turquoise and maroon are the analogous colors.

Personal Feeling

In this course for this semester, I’ve really learnt how to use the colors and the combinations of the colors. The awareness of colors is built up. In the past, I was like the actress of “The Devil Wears Prada” very much. From my point of view, every blues are almost the same. The color choosing at each design is because of “FEELING” and “Look Good”. I also know that why the trend setter can design which colors will be popular and match in a short of time; it is mainly because they have much experienced in the colors choosing and the knowledge are built up by time and time.

Actually, I said so much of these are mainly because this collection is not done in the best way. I should color the outfits in the total collection rather than one by one; the consistency of the color using is lost. Finally the collection seems strange. Also the values of colors are also difficult to carry in a good way. I hope I can build up a better collection in the future and the sense of colors will be richer.

After investigating in the MJ and MbyMJ
it is easy to notice that

MJ is the first line of Marc Jacobs
the outfits are mostly very elegant and seems luxury
The consistency and theme are easy to get and sense

At the same time, the color used at MJ are more conservative
Each collections will not use rich colors or colors in high values and chroma

OPPOSITELY

To the M by MJ, Marc Jacobs seems not be limited
He likes to do what he wants to do in his collection

It's easy to think that Marc by Marc Jacobs,
the designer's popular secondary label,
is a playground compared to his intensely focused,

So the styles and the colors used in the collections are more informal and rich
many different styles color matching will be seen;
many special pattern contributed by different colors

When you looking at the outfits of MJ
you may think the fabric are so stunning; the cutting is elegant;
the accessories are very up-classes

But when you are looking at the outfits of M by MJ
you may think the layering and cutting are so exciting
bright colors is one of the essential colors


 



So when I have to do a collection,
I would like to design for Marc by Marc Jacobs
It's because the limitations are lesser and more color theory can be applied
